Coffee |
Introduction
Although coffee is referred to as a
bean, it is actually the seed of a piece of fruit, known as a coffee
cherry. They were termed ‘beans’, as they
resemble the appearance of actual beans. The cherries are hand picked, and the seed is separated from the fruit. There are various methods of
achieving this, with some allowing the fruit to dry first, and others removing
the seed much sooner. By varying the amount of time the fruit is allowed to
dry on the seed, these methods impact the flavor of the finished product. After
the ‘beans’ are dried, the unroasted product is called ‘green
coffee’.
Advantages of Coffee
First, it can keep a cool
head. The caffeine contained in coffee
can stimulate the central nervous system inside the brain, bring you a clear
thinking and refresh your brain, so as to improve the work efficiency. And this
is the main reason why so many office workers can not live without coffee.
Second, it has an
antioxidant effect. The caffeine acid and chlorogenic acid in coffee have the antioxidant
function, which can effectively remove the free radicals and delay the aging of
human body. What's more, some research institutions have confirmed that the
antioxidant effect of coffee can be comparable with that of green tea. Third, it can promote urination and
eliminate edema.
Coffee, especially black coffee, has a significant diuretic effect and can help
eliminate the edema.
Fourth, it can help lose
weight. As coffee can promote the
metabolism and reduce heat, so it can achieve the effect of weight loss. Fifth, it has an antidepressant
effect. What's more, coffee can make people
happy and full of spirit, and can also relieve the depression. Although coffee has a lot of
benefits to human body, while every coin has two sides, this is also the same
with coffee.
Disadvantages of Coffee
First, it
can interfere with the absorption of
minerals by the body. Coffee will cause calcium loss, which may further lead to osteoporosis.
As a result, women who often drink coffee should pay attention to the
supplementation of calcium. Second, it may increase the risk of suffering from some diseases. If the women frequently drink a large number of coffee, it will
increase the risk of suffering from myocardial infarction. Third, it may bring harms to the stomach. Coffee will promote gastric secretion and increase the gastric acid.
Therefore, drinking too much coffee will lead to the discomfort in stomach. Fourth, pregnant women should not drink coffee. Coffee can cause fetal
anomaly, so pregnant women should not drink coffee. Fifth, it will make women difficult to be pregnant. The caffeine in coffee will affect the chances of pregnancy of the
women. On the whole, coffee has advantages as well as disadvantages to human
body. The key is to control the amount when drinking coffee. Do not drink too
much; otherwise it can only bring harms to human body.
Facts of coffee that you never know
- Drinking
coffee can help you burn fat. Studies
have shown that drinking caffeine can increase your metabolism 3 to 11%. It’s
one of the few chemicals that can actually help with fat burning, so might as
well drink up!
- Coffee
can help prevent Alzheimer’s and dementia. Several studies have shown that
coffee drinkers are up to 65% less likely to get Alzheimer’s Disease, which is
a leading cause of dementia.(Alzheimer’s is a progressive
disease that
destroys memory and other important mental functions.)
- Coffee
is a red berry before it’s a bean. Those berries you see right there?
Those are coffee berries. They grow on trees!
- The
first webcam in the world was made for coffee. In
1991, a group of Cambridge University scientists set a camera on their work
building’s coffee pot, streaming the footage live on the web so that they would
be able to see if the pot was empty or not, saving themselves the
disappointment of a coffee-less trip. The picture above is the actually from
that first camera.
- Iced
coffee is more expensive because it uses more resources. From plastic cups to napkins to
double brewing (re-brewing coffee a second time to make it stronger), the
resources needed for iced coffee are more numerous (and expensive!) than hot
coffee is. All of that adds up, and it causes establishments to charge more for
their iced drinks than their hot-beverage counterparts.
- Coffee
contains important nutrients you need to survive. A single cup of coffee contains 11%
of the daily recommended amount of Riboflavin (vitamin B2), 6% of Pantothenic
Acid (vitamin B5), 3% of Manganese and Potassium, and 2% of Niacin and
Magnesium.
